Daniel Steegmann Mangrané

[Barcelona, 1977. Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro]

Daniel Steegmann Mangrané’s work extends over various media and oscillates between subtle and poetic experimentations, simultaneously characterized by a certain rawness in their making. Although his research is mainly of a conceptual nature, his artworks demonstrate a strong concern with the concrete manifestation of the objects and with the phenomenological effects of the relation between habitat and language. Born in Barcelona, the artist has been living in Brazil since 2004. In 2011, he held the solo show Four Walls, at Galeria Mendes Wood, in São Paulo, and Duna econômica/maquete sin calidad , at Halfhouse, in Barcelona. In 2012, he was awarded a fellowship at Junge Akademie at Akademie der Kunste, in Berlin, and participated in the 30th Bienal de São Paulo. Besides his artistic practice, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané organizes the experimental art school Universidade de Verão, promoted by Capacete, a multidisciplinary platform of artist’s residencies and educational programs headquartered in Rio de Janeiro.
