Thiago Rocha Pitta

[Tiradentes, 1980. Lives and works in São Paulo]

Thiago Rocha Pitta was born in the historical city of Tiradentes and moved to Petrópolis during his teenage years, remaining there until 1999, when he moved to Rio de Janeiro to study visual arts at ufrj and take open courses at EAV/Parque Lage. He began his career as an artist in 2001, when he began to hold interventions in the open air. Since the outset, his work has borne a very close relationship with nature and matter, always articulated with ideas of temporality and transformation. Whether working with pigments, earth, fire or water, his drawings, paintings, videos and installations use images or natural processes that evoke existential questions at the same time that they carry out formal experiments. The collective exhibitions he has participated in most notably include A Time Frame, PS1-MoMA, New York (2006), the Singapore Biennale (2006), and Nova Arte Nova, CCBB-RJ (2008). In 2010, he held a solo show at the Cavalariças da EAV/Parque Lage and in 2012 he participated in the 30th Bienal de São Paulo.
